The geographic position and climate of Turkey made the country a home to several civilisations down the ages and that was the reason why Turkey was effected from drought and desertification.
Protection from each threats which could effect land, soil, water, flora, fauna and other resources is the crucial points for sustinable management in the country.
One of the truth is that Turkey has a risk to become desert because of physicochemical-biological degredation of land, reducing of agricultural productivity and decreasing number of biological diversity.
Combating erosion and desertification is a main action to preserve land, sustainable natural resources management and food security.
At the same time, related agencies and institutes have been making some case studies fastly when some threats occurred to save the place. Studies about afforestration, erosion control, rehabilitation and pasture improvement which have been done really contributed to combating desertification and erosion.
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will host its Twelfth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP12) in Ankara, Turkey, from 12 October to 23 October 2015.
In this framework, several techical visits are planed as part of COP12 between 17 and 18 October 2015.
Attenders will be informed about combating erosion and desertification works which covers erosion and flood control, afforestration bu experts in these techical visits. Additionally, our natural resources and protected ecosystem will be introduced.
General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion (CEM) will cover all expenses (transportation and food) of the COP12 technical visits.
On October 22, there will be an additional the technical trip to Kurtboğazı Aforestation Area, Soğuksu National Park and Kızılcahamam Nursery Garden. The applications can be made from the Technical Tours table in Congresium ground floor.
